Misfit Parade has unleashed its latest Messed Up Movie, Capable. Written and directed by Josh Carroll, the film offers a gripping, visceral journey into empowerment, trauma, and telekinesis—all wrapped in a thrilling horror package. With a narrative DNA reminiscent of Stephen King's Carrie, Capable aims to deconstruct power dynamics in modern relationships gone wrong.
Breaking Free, Breaking Bad
At its heart, Capable follows Ally, a woman trapped in an abusive relationship, as she navigates the murky waters of self-discovery and latent power. After a revelatory therapy session, Ally's anger and resilience manifest in ways neither she nor her manipulative partner Darren could anticipate. What unfolds is a chilling showdown that blends emotional depth with supernatural terror.
Just like James Cameron's vision of The Terminator, Carroll's concept for this revenge tale was born from a literal fever dream.

A Cast and Crew to Die For
Headlining the film is accomplished actress Betsy Holt (The Midnight Visitor), who delivers a haunting yet cathartic performance as Ally. Opposite her is Tim Tasker as Darren, the embodiment of manipulative toxicity, and Josh Griffey as Dr. Klein, the well-meaning therapist whose pen-clicking habit becomes a fateful catalyst.
Behind the camera, Misfit Parade assembled an incredible team. Cinematography by Heath Benfield captures both the intimacy of Ally’s struggle and the eerie tension of her transformation. The visual effects and makeup, courtesy of Heather Smith, are a visceral highlight, with Smith’s practical effects delivering heart-stopping realism. Editor Sam Price ties it all together, ensuring the film’s pacing keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.

Production Under Pressure
Shot over a single day in the greater Indianapolis area, Capable was a labor of love—and endurance. Filming took place in Irvington and Beech Grove during a bitterly cold April night, adding an atmospheric chill that seeps into the film’s tone.
The film also marks the beginning of a fruitful collaboration with Heather Smith, who has since joined other Misfit Parade productions.

Empowerment Through Horror
At its core, Capable is more than just a horror-thriller. It’s a story about reclaiming agency and confronting deeply ingrained fears. Horror has always been a way to explore human truths. With Capable, we wanted to show that true strength comes from within, even if it takes supernatural circumstances to reveal it.
